Overview
SaleCheck is a Chrome extension that tracks product prices and shows you when prices drop. We are committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights.
Data We Collect
We do not collect personal information. There are no user accounts, no emails, no passwords, and no sign-up process.
The extension generates a random, anonymous identifier (UUID) on installation. This UUID is used solely for rate limiting API requests to prevent abuse. It cannot be linked to your identity, browsing history, or any personal information.
Data stored locally in your browser:
- Product URLs and identifiers for items you choose to track
- Product titles, prices, and historical price data returned by our backend
- Your anonymous UUID
- App preferences, including your cumulative savings total and selected pig accessory
This data is stored in Chrome's local storage on your device. Your tracked products and their last update timestamp are additionally backed up to Chrome's sync storage, which Google synchronizes across your Chrome installations if you are signed into Chrome. This sync is handled entirely by Chrome; SaleCheck has no access to the sync transport or Google's servers. Aside from that Chrome-managed backup, this data is not uploaded to our servers or shared with any third party.
Data We Send to Our Servers
When you track a product, when prices are refreshed daily, or when you confirm a purchase, the extension sends the following to our backend:
- The product URL or product identifier (to look up pricing data)
- Your anonymous UUID, included as a request header for rate limiting
- When you confirm a purchase: the dollar amount saved on that purchase, used only to update an aggregate global savings counter and an anonymous tier distribution
Product pricing data is stored in our database keyed by product identifier, never by user. Your UUID is stored separately, linked only to a daily credit counter used for rate limiting. Savings amounts are aggregated into global totals at the moment they are received and are not linked to your UUID or to any product. Our servers do not maintain any per-user profile, browsing history, or list of which products you personally track.
Third-Party Services
Our backend uses third-party pricing data services to retrieve product information. These services receive product identifiers (not your personal information) to return pricing data. We do not share your UUID or any identifying information with these services.
Cookies and Tracking
SaleCheck does not use cookies, tracking pixels, analytics scripts, or any form of user tracking. We do not track your browsing activity. The extension only activates when you explicitly interact with it.
Data Retention
Product pricing records on our servers are automatically deleted 30 days after any user last requested them. Rate-limit records tied to your UUID are automatically deleted 7 days after last use. Aggregate counters (global savings total, tier distribution) do not contain any identifying information and are retained indefinitely. Your locally stored data persists until you remove it (by deleting tracked products) or uninstall the extension.
Your Rights
- Delete your data: Remove any tracked product from the extension at any time, or uninstall the extension to delete all local data.
- Export your data: Use the export button in the extension to download your tracked product list.
- No data on our servers: We do not maintain any per-user data. There is nothing to request deletion of.
Changes to This Policy
If we make material changes to this privacy policy, we will update this page and the "Last updated" date above. Continued use of the extension after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
